Courtney "Barbie" Guyon

    Courtney Guyon was 10 years old when she performed as one of the opening acts for Jerry Lee Lewis in Little Rock, AK, 30 Years of Rock n Roll Concert, and 12 years old when chosen to play piano for a dinner banquet honoring Van Cliburn at the Worthington Hotel in Fort Worth. In August of ’99, VH1 sponsored a public awareness campaign entitled, “Save the Music,” and as part of the promotion, the TV station selected Courtney giving her the opportunity to perform in concert with the band “Chicago” on the Starplex/ Smirnoff/ SuperPages.Com stage at Dallas Fair Park. Courtney has traveled to Alaska performing with the Carry Richard’s Jazz Orchestra playing lead alto, flute, and clarinet aboard the Radisson Seven Seas Cruise Ship, the Mariner. During the summer of 2002, Courtney was selected from a nationwide audition tour to play at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure with Disney’s All-American College Band in Anaheim, CA playing with jazz greats such as Horace Silver, Bob Florence, Wayne Bergeron, Rick Baptist, and Jeff Kashiwa. She played with the Princess Orchestra aboard the Golden Princess Cruise Ship during the 2005 holiday season in the Caribbean Islands, and in 2009 toured with Willie Nelson, Denis Leary, the Coasters, Platters, and Marvelettes, and Joseph Hall from America’s Got Talent.


Courtney gigs and records in the area playing with various bands such as “Fever” Elvis Tribute Band, “Drive”, “Vintage Vibes”, the “Don’t Tell Mama” band, the “Funkstronauts”, “Party On”, “FM”, Shelley Carrol/ Brad Leali Big Band, and Galen Jeter Jazz Orchestra. She has recorded on various albums with Cross Timbers Community Church at Harbor House Studios, including “Worship the Child” which can be heard on
90.9FM, KCBI. On 100.7FM, The Word, Courtney’s jingle for the radio program “Parenting Today’s Youth” can be heard in the evening at 7p. She also was interviewed and performed as a guest on 89.7 Power FM, Spin 180.


In the summer of ‘07, Courtney performed in Stockholm, Sweden playing at the Glenn Miller Café, and summer ’08 played for the Trier 20th Anniversary Celebration (Germany). She has participated, since ’99, in the cultural exchange program, Lone Star International Jazz Exchange, also known as “Pink Pop”, in Germany, France, and the U.S., playing jazz concerts with students from Germany and Slovakia. Ten years later, she was on staff as the jazz saxophone instructor for this same program.


Courtney graduated from the Dallas Arts Magnet Highschool, Booker T. Washington for the Performing and Visual Arts (2000), Texas Wesleyan University (B.A., Music Performance, 2004), and the University of North Texas (M.M., Jazz Studies, 2006). She is currently employed by the Dallas County Community College District at North Lake College, teaching Music Appreciation and Class Piano, and Mountain View College as Director of the Jazz Ensemble. She has been the Associate Director of Music at The Oaks Baptist Church for 5 years, writing and arranging for the praise band, and directing the choir and orchestra. She also teaches private piano/ saxophone lessons for Duncanville, Grand Prairie, Arlington, and Cedar Hill, and has been the pianist at the Greenhouse Spa since 2004.
